It’s a strange feeling—because I’m genuinely happy, and I’ve been doing more personal work than ever before. I’m showing up for myself in ways I didn’t even know I needed to. Self-confidence is something I’m working hard on, showing up is one of my big goals this year. As I work through the journey of rediscovering myself in my late 40’s, a mum, business woman, I walk into this chapter with a new outlook.
But still, there’s this quiet question inside: Am I enough? And when will I feel like I truly am?
Make-up as a tool for self-confidence, not perfection.
A few days ago, I did a photo shoot.
For me, this was a huge deal. As a make-up artist usually I’m behind the camera, being in front of the camera isn’t something I find easy—it brought up so many insecurities.
But I told myself, it’s now or never. And I did it.
This was a hard moment to capture.
Afterwards, I looked through the images—and, I won’t lie—it was hard. My focus immediately went to what I didn’t like, to all my perceived flaws. (that’s my trained eye, to spot things)
That inner critic showed up loud and clear.
But then I stopped myself.
I had a quiet word with me.
And I reminded myself;
To choose love.
To choose softness.
To choose acceptance—faults and all.
But there’s beauty in showing up exactly as we are.
I showed up. And I’m proud of that.
The process wasn’t perfect. Neither am I.
I’m proud of myself for doing it anyway. That’s where my power is now—in choosing me.
I want to keep having photos taken.
Not to prove anything to anyone, but to log my journey.
To play, to explore movement, openness, and to feel more and more free in my own skin.
Strength isn’t about perfection. It’s about choosing to rise—again and again.
I know that one day, I’ll look back at these images and say,
Wow, I looked amazing. And I want to try and feel that now, not ten years from now.
We are not too old, too late, or too anything. This is our time to rise.
You are allowed to be both a work in progress and a masterpiece at the same time.
This is just the beginning. I’m learning to take up space and trust the path ahead.
So that’s my two pennies’ worth on self-worth—and me-value.
