Party Hair and Makeup in Bristol: How It Works and What It Costs

October 16, 2026

There’s something in the diary. A work party, a milestone birthday, a black-tie dinner. You want to treat yourself and look properly done for it, and you’re quietly wondering whether booking a professional is a normal thing to do, and what it would actually cost.

It certainly is a service many people take up, and here are the numbers. Studio make-up bookings start from £90, and mobile bookings, where your highly experienced hair and makeup artist, Donna, comes to you, start at £230. Donna has been doing hair and makeup for almost three decades, and her occasion hair and makeup is built around one idea, that you should look like you on a really, really good day.

This guide covers what a booking involves, what it costs, how far ahead to book and how group bookings work.

What counts as party hair and makeup?

If it’s a big occasion and it isn’t your own wedding, it counts. Clients book party hair and makeup for:

  • Christmas and work parties
  • Milestone birthdays
  • Engagement parties
  • Hen nights
  • New Year’s Eve
  • Black-tie dinners and awards evenings
  • Corporate functions
  • Race days
  • Going to a wedding as a guest

Weddings themselves are different. Bridal hair and makeup is a separate service with its own booking process. If you’re not sure which you need, here’s the difference between bridal and special occasion make-up.

Studio in Bristol, or mobile to you?

This is the choice that moves the price most, and neither option is the “proper” one, it’s just personal preference.

The studio is Donna’s home studio in Fishponds, BS16, with easy parking. It’s the cheaper option and the calmer one. No rushing round the house, just an hour or two of being looked after. Allow around 45mins – 90 mins for makeup, or 90mins to 135mins for both hair and make-up.

Mobile means Donna comes to you, at home, in a hotel or wherever you’re getting ready. It’s the easier option if a group is getting ready together or your timings are tight. At your end, she will need a few requirements:

  • a plug socket
  • a chair without a high back
  • a table at roughly working height
  • the best window in the house, because natural light makes all the difference

Mobile bookings start from £230. Knowing that now saves an email, as it tells you straight away whether the studio or a home visit suits your booking.

Travel is charged at £10 per 15 minutes, with the first 20 minutes of the round trip included. Parking, tolls and congestion or clean-air charges are added at cost where they apply. We’d rather tell you that now than have any unexpected costs turn up afterwards that may come as a surprise.

For some Bristol city-centre bookings, Donna uses a private driver, and travel is quoted as a single figure instead. It keeps things simple when parking in the centre is anything but straightforward.

What a party booking actually includes

If you’ve never sat in a makeup artist’s chair, here’s what happens, in order.

  1. Consultation and look planning. You talk through the event, your outfit, any photos you’ve brought and how much makeup you usually wear.
  2. Skin prep. Your skin is cleansed, hydrated and primed for its type, so the base sits into the skin rather than on top of it. This is the step that separates a professional from a friend who’s good at makeup, and it’s the reason your makeup still looks right at 2am, not just at 7pm.
  3. Application. Base, brows, eyes, cheeks and lips, built to last and to photograph well.
  4. Lashes, if you want them. Individual or strip lashes to last all day.
  5. Finishing and setting, so everything stays put through dinner, dancing and the taxi home.

There are two makeup tiers, and the names alone don’t tell you much:

  1. Signature Event is soft, polished and refined. Precise and long-wearing, tailored to enhance rather than transform. This is the one for “me, but better”. You can upgrade with a natural cluster lash.
  2. Luxury Glam is full prep, high detail, sculpted definition and flawless skin, built to hold through a day and an evening. Luxury strip or cluster lashes are included.

Hair can be a blow-dry, soft waves or a full up-do. An up-do takes longer, so mention it when you book.

Upgrade your signature make-up look with an add-on.

Lashes can be added to any booking.

Standard Strip at £12 (Natural, Textured, Length, Soft Volume),

Luxe Strip at £16 (Mega Volume, Silk, Faux Mink),

Cluster lashes at £15 natural or £20 glam.

All are vegan and cruelty-free, and strip styles can be reused up to twenty times. Latex-free and sensitive adhesives are available too, so if lash glue has irritated your eyes before, just say.

(If you’d rather skip strips altogether, a lash lift or brow lamination a few days before gives you a done look that lasts for weeks.)

What it costs

Here are the real prices, in studio and on location.

Service Studio Mobile

Signature Event: Hair OR Makeup £90 £115
Luxury Glam: Hair & Makeup £300 £350

Travel (mobile bookings) 20 minutes included, then £10 per additional 15 minutes from BS16 2AA

Prices last reviewed October 2026.

  • Mobile bookings are subject to a £230 minimum.
  • Travel is charged on top, and so are parking, tolls and congestion or clean-air charges where they apply.
  • Everyone in a group pays the standard rate. There are no group discounts.

Four things move the cost. Which tier you choose, whether you book hair and makeup together or just one, how far Donna travels, and whether you add lashes or a trial. The full service list is on the occasion hair and makeup page.

A worked example. Three friends are getting ready at home, 25 minutes from the studio, and each wants Signature Event makeup only.

  • Makeup: 3 × £115 = £345, which clears the £230 mobile minimum
  • Travel: 25 minutes each way is a 50-minute round trip. The first 20 minutes are included, leaving 30 minutes, which is 2 × £10 = £20
  • Total: £365, or about £122 each, plus parking if there’s a charge

How to book, and how far ahead

Event bookings are paid in full at the time of booking. There’s no deposit and no balance to remember later. Paying up front is what secures your appointment. Once it’s done, the slot is genuinely yours and isn’t being held loosely while someone else asks about the same date. The cancellation position is set out in our Terms & Conditions.

Popular dates can book up in advance, particularly Saturdays and busy periods such as Christmas, so I recommend securing your appointment as soon as you know your date. However, my diary is flexible and not all of my availability is shown online, so it’s always worth getting in touch – even at short notice. Sunday and Bank Holiday appointments are also available by arrangement, and if I’m already booked, one of my experienced Beauty Angels associate artists may be available.

Left it late? Cancellations do happen, so it’s always worth asking. Donna works seven days a week, including bank holidays, and early call times come at no extra charge, which is often what makes a last-minute booking possible.

Group bookings: birthdays, hen nights and work dos

Getting ready together is half the fun, and a group booking is the easiest way to make sure everyone’s done and out of the door on time.

How it runs. Donna works through the group according to the services booked and the time everyone needs to be ready. Timings vary depending on whether guests are having hair, makeup or both, and the complexity of the looks. For larger groups or tighter schedules, additional artists can be arranged.

Where it happens. At home, in a hotel room or in an Airbnb all work. Each needs the same things, a plug, a table, a chair without a high back and good natural light. Hotel rooms can be darker than you’d think, so pick the one with the biggest window, and check with an Airbnb host what time you can get in.

Everyone pays the standard rate, and there are no group discounts, so a group of four is four full bookings. What a group does will comfortably clear the £230 mobile minimum, and the travel charge is shared across the whole booking rather than landing on one person. That’s the honest reason a group is better value.

Depending on numbers and timings, a second artist is sometimes needed, and some groups specifically ask for separate hair and makeup artists so the morning moves faster. This is arranged at the point of booking. Depending on the size of the group and the timings, additional artists may be required. Any additional artist costs will be included in your individual quote.

Is a trial worth it for a party?

For a work Christmas party, honestly, probably not. Simply tell Donna what you like on the day and the consultation covers it.

For a milestone birthday, a black-tie event or anything that will be heavily photographed, yes. Trials aren’t only for brides, and there are two options available:

  • Express Trial (60 minutes) is a run-through of your makeup look, so you know exactly what you’re getting on the day.
  • Full Event Trial (120 minutes) covers hair and makeup in full, with time to try options and refine them.

Both are studio only.

How to get the most out of your appointment

  • Bring two or three inspiration photos, not twenty. Ideally of people with similar colouring or face shape to yours.
  • Arrive with clean, moisturised skin. That means no makeup, with moisturiser on and fully absorbed.
  • Arrive with dry hair. Wet hair adds time you’d rather spend on the style.
  • Wear something that doesn’t go over your head. A button-up shirt or zip-up top, or simply get dressed afterwards.
  • Pack for the night. Blotting papers, the lipstick used on you and a compact powder.
  • If Donna’s coming to you, sort the parking. Let her know whether there’s a space, whether she’ll need a permit and whether there’s a charge, since that’s passed on at cost.

And one more thing, in Donna’s words:

“Please be honest with me. If you look in the mirror and feel something is more than you’d normally wear, tell me. I won’t be offended! I’d much rather adjust things as we go. The aim is never to make you look like somebody else – it’s for you to still feel completely like you.”

You can see how that works out in practice in what past clients have said.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with all skin tones, hair types and ages, including mature skin?

Yes. With almost 30 years’ experience in hair and makeup, Donna is confident working with all ages, including mature skin, as well as all skin tones, skin types and hair textures. Every appointment is tailored to the individual – from the products and techniques used to the finished hair and makeup look – so you still feel like yourself.

What products and tools do you use?

Donna works from a comprehensive professional hair and makeup kit, built over almost 30 years in the industry. It includes carefully selected professional and premium products chosen for performance, longevity and how they work across different skin types, skin tones, ages and hair textures.

Products are selected for the individual rather than relying on one particular brand, so your hair and makeup can be tailored to you, your event and the finish you want.

How much does party hair and makeup cost in Bristol?

At Beauty Angels, make-up studio bookings start from £90 and mobile hair and make-up bookings start at £230. The final price depends on the tier you choose, whether that’s Signature Event or Luxury Glam, and whether you book hair, makeup or both. Mobile bookings add travel, plus parking, tolls or clean-air charges at cost.

Is there a minimum booking if you come to me?

Yes, mobile bookings have a £230 minimum. It applies to the whole booking rather than per person, so groups getting ready together usually clear it easily. If you’re booking just for yourself, the studio in Fishponds, BS16, avoids both the minimum and the travel charge.

Do I pay a deposit, or the full amount?

You pay the full amount when you book. There’s no deposit and no balance to settle later. Payment in full is what secures your appointment, so the slot is genuinely held for you. The cancellation position is set out in the Beauty Angels Terms & Conditions.

How long does party hair and makeup take?

Allow around 60-75 minutes for makeup and approximately 90-135 minutes for hair and makeup together, with a little longer for more detailed styling or a full up-do. That includes time for consultation and preparation, so the appointment doesn’t feel rushed.

Do you come to me, or do I come to you?

Both options are available. You can come to Donna’s home studio in Fishponds, BS16, which has easy parking and is the cheaper choice. Or Donna can come to you, at home, in a hotel, or in an Airbnb. Mobile bookings have a £230 minimum, with travel charged on top.

Do you charge for travel and parking?

Yes. Travel is £10 per 15 minutes, with the first 20 minutes of the round trip included. Parking, tolls and congestion or clean-air charges are added at cost where they apply. For some city-centre bookings Donna uses a private driver, and travel is quoted as one fixed figure.

Where can I book a makeup appointment in Bristol?

You can book party and occasion makeup with Beauty Angels through our online booking system. Appointments are available at Donna’s home studio in Fishponds, BS16, or on location across Bristol and the South West.

Not all availability is shown online, particularly for group bookings, early starts or appointments that require more time. If you can’t see the date or time you need, please get in touch directly. Donna may be able to accommodate you, or one of the experienced Beauty Angels associate artists may be available.

Can you do a group of us together?

Yes. Group bookings for birthdays, hen parties and work dos can take place at home, in a hotel or in an Airbnb. Everyone pays the standard rate, with no group discounts, but the travel charge is shared across the booking. A second artist can be arranged for larger groups.

Can I add strip lashes?

Yes, strip lashes can be added to any makeup booking, and luxury strip lashes are already included in Luxury Glam. Standard Strip lashes are £12 and Luxe Strip £16, with cluster lashes also available. All are vegan and cruelty-free, and latex-free adhesives are available.

Do you do hair as well as makeup?

Yes. Hair options include a blow dry, soft waves or a full up-do, booked on its own or alongside makeup. An up-do takes longer, so mention the style when you book. Some groups ask for separate hair and makeup artists, which can be arranged at the point of booking.

How far in advance should I book?

Popular dates can get booked up, particularly Saturdays and during busy periods such as Christmas, so I recommend confirming your appointment as soon as you know your date.

My full availability isn’t always shown on the online booking system, particularly for group bookings or appointments that need a little more time. I also offer Sunday and Bank Holiday appointments, which may not appear as available online. If you can’t see the date or time you need, please get in touch with me directly.

It’s also always worth checking for last-minute availability, as appointments can sometimes become available at short notice.

If I’m already booked, one of my experienced Beauty Angels associate artists may also be available, so it’s always worth asking.

Ready when you are

Whether it’s the work do, the big birthday or a black-tie night you’ve been looking forward to for months, the aim is the same, you walk out feeling like yourself, on an elevated level.
